Togedah

ChatGPT group chats were retired. Here's an alternative.

From 9 July 2026, OpenAI stopped letting people create or join ChatGPT group chats, and existing ones are becoming read-only. If your group used them to plan, research or make something together, Togedah does that job: one chat with one AI agent that everyone in the group can see and use.

What changed in ChatGPT

  • Since 9 July 2026, nobody can start a new group chat, turn a chat into one, or join one through an invite link.
  • Existing group chats stay readable, with their messages, files and images. Once one becomes read-only, nobody can add to it.
  • One-to-one ChatGPT chats aren't affected. OpenAI called group chats a pilot and hasn't named a replacement.

From OpenAI's help centre, checked 3 November 2026. Group chats launched in November 2025 for up to 20 people.

Moving your group to Togedah

  1. Open the old group chat and copy what matters: the plan so far, decisions, links.
  2. Start a chat in Togedah, paste it in, and say what you want next ("turn this into a day plan and a budget").
  3. Add the others by email. Pick Can write for people who should message the agent directly, or Can read and suggest for people whose messages you approve first.

What about sharing a ChatGPT link?

A shared ChatGPT link sends a copy of the conversation. The other person reads it, and any reply they add goes into their own copy. You end up with two chats that drift apart, which is fine for showing a result but not for working on it together.

Bring your group over: Request access. It's free during the beta.
